From my early childhood, I had the desire to paint, possibly because my father was an artist. At the age of 26 I was given a set of oil paints, and I completed several paintings over the next ten years. I didn't take lessons during this time and considered painting a luxury for which I had neither time nor energy while rearing three children and working as an operating room nurse.
At the age of 60, I attended an Elderhostel watercolor class and liked the medium very much. But it wasn't until two years later, that I took a class which so inspired and excited me that I've been painting ever since.
I am enjoying creating art in a variety of media: watercolor, oil, acrylic, pencil, and ink. My subject matter also covers the gamut from animals to people, still life and flowers to landscape and even a few abstracts. I tend to use vivid colors and love the fact that I am interested in so much variety. The main thing is to paint what inspires me at the moment, and my greatest success has come when I do exactly that.
It has been thrilling to sell my work; to hear a stranger comment "I love it," brings tremendous satisfaction. Many of my family members and friends also have my paintings, some of which were done especially for them.
I intend to continue to paint and to grow as an artist the rest of my life.
